Meet Emily, Cottonwood's Horseman

Emily's entire life has been dedicated to the equestrian world. She has not only started her own five horses but also assisted others with theirs, showcasing her expertise in all facets of horse training. Her approach goes beyond the norm, rooted in the fundamental principles of horsemanship that form the core of her training program. Her experience spans a range of disciplines, including polo, fox hunting, reining, hunter/jumpers, dressage, and equitation, and she has competed in local shows across both English and Western categories. Emily is adept at helping both you and your horse reach diverse objectives. At present, she is focused on creating a ranch riding and cattle working program, driven by her passion for the educated, adaptable working horse. This program is set to grow over the coming years, with the aim to offer more frequent local and in-home clinics.

The Program

Ready to grow your equine and horsemanship knowledge?
Come check out Cottonwood's Horsemanship program!
Emily's program is geared toward the driven, invested individual ready to learn about the intricacies of horse behavior and how to craft a valuable partnership between horse and human.
Similar to most educational and sport program settings, our horsemanship program is tuition based. A set tuition fee is paid at the start of each month as compensation for things from the time dedicated to each session (with the horse alone or horse and rider like a lesson) to even potential use of one of Emily's personal horses and equipment to work on additional skills.
Cottonwood's Horsemanship Program put's a lot of focus on the "unseen" language and behavior of horses to build not only a good working relationship but also keep horse and human as safe as possible. As Emily's teacher explained it best to her, "We do our groundwork, then our groundwork saddled, and then our groundwork from the saddle" in order to build confidence and trust in both parties to work together!
All classes run anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half. Sometimes, everything can be accomplished within an hour, but more often than not, more time is needed to find a really thoughtful place to wrap things up for the horse and human. Emily always wants to ensure things wrap up in the most thoughtful, positive manner for all parties.
*Be sure to let it be known if you need to wrap up by a specific time so your session can be managed accordingly*
