Our Trainer

"My program focuses on educating riders and owners about good horsemanship. I am one of the few trainer's that locally does not focus or push riders and owners to show. With that said, however, I do enjoy going to a local show to have fun and socialize while getting horses and riders/owners experience in new and busy environments!"

**Due to the size of my lesson horses available to teach lessons on, unfortunately I cannot accept lesson students that are over 175lbs for the physical well being of the horses. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience but thank you for understanding!**

Being the next generation of stockmen on the family farm, Emily brings a lifetime of experience to the table here at Cottonwood. While she does not specialize in a specific discipline, Emily feels a good knowledge of basic horsemanship along with good equitation practices will set horse and rider pairs up for success in any discipline and/or any situation.

Maintenance Training:
Her ability to work with horses and be able to figure out what works best for the horse gives Emily the ability to create a program for horse and owner that is ideal for those who want to create a safe, fun and easy to understand working relationship with their equine partner. Emily has always strived to find and learn new training techniques to use in her program, giving her various ways to accomplish things. What might work for one, may not be ideal for another.
While a lot of her skills and techniques come from the guidance of her father, Emily has worked with trainers and instructors in lessons and clinics, giving her a well rounded education in various disciplines and techniques on the ground and up in the saddle.
The combination of groundwork on and off a line helps her learn about each horse individually; to help her figure out the best steps forward under saddle. By working on the ground, she can decide how to best work with the horse and what to focus on with the horse as an individual, and how to work with the horse and rider to develop the working partnership everyone strives for in a competitive or non competitive setting.
Emily has successfully started and trained every horse she owns as well as others. The horses used in the lesson program were successfully started and trained by her. The proof is in the stalls at Cottonwood. She works to create well behaved, safe horses for others to ride and learn on. Let her help you and your horse get to a place where you both feel confident in each other to have the best relationship possible!
**Maintenance Training program is for horses that are at least green started under saddle and can do at least Walk/Trot/Canter with a rider. Please contact privately about horses that are not started under saddle yet**

Lessons:
Emily's goals for each student are the same: create a safe, fun learning environment by moving forward ONLY when the rider has the ability to safely do so. This being working around a horse to get ready, handle them on the ground and their saddle skills. She has seen too many students enter her program working on things beyond their independent capability. She believes having the strongest foundation and being extremely independent and confident allows riders to move up as safely and competently as possible. Her end goal for all her students is to be confident and independent enough to ask for help when needed but also not feel as though they need a trainer for each ride.

Other:
Emily is a mom of two beautiful little girls who she hopes to share her love of livestock and other animals with. She also loves photography and taking advantage of that hobby to get some beautiful photos of her horses and family with.
She also loves taking photos of her students making progress and growing a love of horseback riding to share with their families!
You can always find her with her girls and hounds or in the barn giving her time to her equine partners to work to accomplish her future goals of a growing training program at Cottonwood.
