About the Stable & Training Program

When you look for a boarding facility or trainer... What matters the most to you? What are you looking for?

As a boarding facility, Cottonwood's staff focuses on the health, well being, and happiness of your horse.
We want to be greeted with nickers and perked ears at morning feeding. We want horses waiting for that special scratch after their stall is cleaned. We want them happily munching on hay, comfortably dozing off, or having a good time socializing with neighbors during turnout. We want them eager and happy for dinner time. Quiet and content munching on hay or sleeping peacefully at night check.
Happy, healthy and safe. That is our goal. We are sure to provide your horse with some of the most routine care around. This routine includes, not only their daily schedule, but also the people in charge of their daily schedule. The same people managing the day to day care not only ensures your horse is comfortable with it's "staff", but also ensures the smallest change in your horse will be noticed and addressed immediately.

And at the end of the day, isn't that what really matters most?

We can assure you, at Cottonwood, your horse will be treated like it's our own. Every horse receives the same standard of care, the same care our own personal horses receive. We offer each horse high quality, locally produced grain and hay to ensure they are receiving all their nutrient requirements. Fresh, clean well water to drink. Safe turnout areas and safe stalls to keep them living their best lives.

With over 75 years combined experience, knowledge, and love of horses, Cottonwood is the ideal facility for those looking for a relaxed, happy, clean, safe and comfortable home for their horse. It is also the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Our trainer's goal is to help owners create a good working relationship.
You should not only look for how the trainers treat the horses in their program, but how the horses interact with the trainer.
Much like in their daily care, we want horses that are happy to see us, happy and willing to work, willing to try. They are not machines, not slaves or robots, but should be treated and worked with like a partner. She believes and knows that horses thrive with safe boundaries, clear communication and understanding of what is expected of them. A good horse with the right people will give you everything they can, and they'll try their best to understand and learn what they don't know. This creates an amazing, fun and safe working partner.
Our trainer wants to help you be the best team you can be. In an arena, out on the trails, even at a show if that's your end goal.
Emily wants to help YOU accomplish what YOU want with your horse.
Because at the end of the day, It's your horse. She wants YOU to be successful however that looks to you.

Cottonwood is a full service equine boarding facility in Colchester, Vermont.
Bordering the Winooski River, our farm provides amazing views of the Lake Champlain basin and the
Adirondacks. Our convenient location, only two and a half miles north of Burlington, makes us an ideal choice for all Chittenden County residents, as well as students from St. Michaels College and UVM.

The farm, founded as a large dairy operation, has been in the Senesac family since the 1920's.  Our long history of caring for horses began generations ago with work horses and has continued ever since.
We have transformed our farm into a premier facility to meets the needs of any avid equestrian.
